With over 1.3 billion people, India is the world’s second-most populous country, and is expected to be the most populous by 2030. — https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_past_and_projected_future_population After gaining independence from Britain in 1949, India was at first largely socialist. But since the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, India has increasingly embraced capitalism, and has seen impressive economic growth. — https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economic_history_of_India The economy of India is the fifth-largest economy in the world measured by nominal GDP and the third-largest by purchasing power parity (PPP). Since the start of the 21st century, annual average GDP growth has been 6% to 7%, and from 2013 to 2018, India was the world's fastest growing major economy, surpassing China. The long-term growth perspective of the Indian economy remains positive due to its young population and corresponding low dependency ratio, healthy savings, and investment rates, increasing globalisation in India and integration into the global economy. The country remains the world's sixth-largest consumer market. — https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_India Just a decade ago, Indian GDP was the eleventh largest in the world. Now, with 7 percent growth forecast for 2022, India's economy has overtaken the United Kingdom's in terms of size, making it the fifth biggest. That's according to the latest figures from the International Monetary Fund. … Looking ahead, the IMF forecasts this to become the new status quo, with India expected to leap further ahead of the UK up to 2027 - making India the fourth largest economy by that time, too, and leaving the UK behind in sixth. — https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2022/09/india-uk-fifth-largest-economy-world/ India has an Internet user base of about 636.77 million as of May 2020, about 40% of the population. Despite being the second-largest user base in world, only behind China (650 million, 48% of population), the penetration of e-commerce is low compared to markets like the United States (266 million, 84%) … but is growing, adding around 6 million new entrants every month. The industry consensus is that growth is at an inflection point. —
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-commerce_in_India Why English? [In
India] English as a first language is only spoken by 259,678 people, as a second
language by 82,717,239 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_English-speaking_population In general, English is widely spoken in the big cities in India like Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai and others but less so in the more rural and Northern areas. — https://howwidelyspoken.com/how-widely-spoken-english-india/ Under Article 343 of the Constitution of India, English gets the status of an associate official language, the official language being Hindi. However, the higher legal system, federal legislative processes, and the bulk of higher education are all still carried out in English. … English has always been an aspirational language, with a great deal of material progress and prestige associated with it. … [F]or those in the cities and in the professions, it is the language of choice for commerce, for education, and for social interaction. The underprivileged and the lower classes see it as the language of emancipation and often invest in getting an English education. — https://public.oed.com/blog/introduction-to-indian-english/ Who are those who are most likely to use English online? They are those who are most economically and educationally advanced, most in need of insurance for their assets and activities, most able to afford it, and most likely to be online. In other words, they are the prime prospects in India’s growing insurance market. The advantage of marketing insurance to Indians online in English is secure. Companies selling insurance in India, which could therefore profit from purchasing these domains, include not only Indian companies themselves, but also often their international partners. We see names like Prudential, Cigna, Liberty [Mutual] and MetLife. —
http://business.mapsofindia.com/insurance/top-ten-insurance-companies.html
— https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_insurance_companies_in_India — https://www.eindiainsurance.com/insurance/insurance-companies-india.asp The Indian reinsurance market is all set to witness intense competition with around 13 players preparing to enter the insurance field …. The notable foreign insurance company being Warren Buffet’s. The Indian markets were thrown open to foreign companies in 2015. The Indian market holds tremendous potential for insurance products, especially in segments that remain untapped. The market is evolving in terms of market penetration … and customer experience. Foreign insurers are an additional driver of growth. India’s Insurance industry is one of the premium sectors experiencing upward growth. This upward growth of the insurance industry can be attributed to growing incomes and increasing awareness in the industry. India is the fifth largest life insurance market in the world's emerging insurance markets, growing at a rate of 32-34% each year. — https://www.ibef.org/industry/insurance-sector-india Business domain names matter for several reasons.
The .COM and .IN insurance domain names in this set offer several powerful advantages.
Ø However, it doesn’t guarntee service in India, or products and services adapted to India. But that concern goes away for “geo” domains, e.g., rajkotinsurance.com.
The .COM and .IN domains we are offering provide keyword coverage for many types of insurance and almost all of India’s states and territories, as well as many of its major cities. This is exclusive coverage, especially for the .IN domains, the official extension for India. Only one company can acquire ownership of these domains — you or a competitor — and that company will have an ongoing commanding advantage selling insurance to the Indian market. The advantages of deploying a set of domains, rather than a single site, are many.
These network advantages make it imperative that all these domains be kept together as a set. Deployed as an integrated set, the domains will become strongly synergistic: the whole will be much, much greater than the sum of its parts. Ø
We
will not break up the set by selling some domains to one company, some
to another. This assures you that we won’t dilute the advantage of owning them
— or the disadvantage of not owning
them. All insurance providers in India could benefit, but only one will. All the rest will be hurt. Frankly, any one or two of these domains, by themselves, would be something you could probably afford to ignore. But not the set. The set covers too much ground. It’s a must-have. But what if you don’t offer all the types or serve all of the regions in the set?
But what about managing so many sites? Systems like Multisite and MainWP allow you to manage multiple WordPress sites from a single dashboard, although each does it differently and the differences matter. You can make changes on selected sites or all sites simultaneously. Managing multiple sites should not be an obstacle. But what about branding? You can use your company name, logo and colors across all the sites, simultaneously keeping your branding and building the understanding that your brand has a broad reach. Owning this set of domains would …
In a competitive bidding situation, how much should you be prepared to pay for this domain set? You might think to turn to domain appraisal services for answers. They could appraise each of the domains, add them up and give you a number for the total. A sophisticated service might even add in something for the synergistic effect of a set. This seems like an obvious approach. But it would be a major mistake. It’s important to understand why the appraisal services would get it wrong, so you don’t lose the set to a more savvy competitor. Domain appraisal sites valuate domains based on sales of domains they consider similar. But who bought those other domains? And for what purpose? There are two types of domain buyers:
Since domainers are buying to resell, they try to buy at bargain prices. These push the average market price for similar domains downward, and that affects appraisal service valuations. What appraisal services don’t take into account, and can’t, is all the factors that contribute to the profit potential of this domain set for your company if you own it, as well as the loss potential for your company if a competitor owns it instead. Only your own company has the information necessary to estimate these two factors, which are unique to your company because they are different for every company. How could they not be? Savvy end users valuate domains on a different basis. They ask two critical questions:
So for an end user, the criteria by which domainers valuate domains, as well as any appraisals based on market prices, are completely irrelevant. Instead, all that’s relevant is an estimation of the impact that owning the domains, or not owning them, could have on their business. For more on valuating domain names, please see articles 13-23 in the author’s Linkedin article series, What Businesses Need to Know about Domaining: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/table-contents-series-what-businesses-need-know-domaining-borden/ Ownership: In December 2021, .IN
(Indian) domains became subject to a new rule: “Nixi, the registry for .IN
domains, requires … written approval to register more than … 100 .in domains
(for businesses and organizations). Without this approval, the registry may
delete the extra domains without letting the registrant know.” To be on the safe side, ownership of our .IN domains, including our .IN insurance domains, is divided between two Massachusetts companies having the same ownership and management: WebGrow, Inc. and Write for Business, Inc. The buyer can either make a similar arrangement or obtain permission from NIXI to hold more than 100 .IN domains.
In writing this overview — for the benefit of a select audience, for a very specific purpose — I made my best effort to be accurate and objective within the confines of brevity. Please forgive any distortions or biases which nevertheless inadvertently found their way into my words. I encourage you to do your own research, to correct any inaccuracies or biases herein. Putting “India” at the end, when available, was considered better than at the beginning, since putting it at the beginning could suggest a service of India rather than just in India. |
